This course is designed to help in the handling and usage of a Detection Dog. You and your K9 can expect to learn how to effectively search various venues, set up training situations, set up a maintenance training schedule, record keep, and most importantly, prepare for Court. It's a great resource for new handlers or anyone working and training detection dogs. It can also be used as a fundamentals refresher course for K9 Program Supervisors as well.

This course is designed to help in the handling and usage of a Detection Dog. This course is designed to instruct K9 teams in the proper usage of Police Patrol dogs.  (Training is in line with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) standards.)  Each K9 handler can expect to learn how to effectively control their K9, search for suspects, set up training situations and set up a maintenance training schedule. 

This class is designed to be a great resource for new handlers or anyone working and training Patrol dogs. It can also be used a fundamentals refresher course for K9 Program Supervisors as well.  

Four-Week Detection Dog Trainer Course:

This course is designed to help in the training of detection dogs. You can expect to learn protocol training for odor and also to problem solve, set up training situations, and to set up a maintenance training schedule. Most importantly you will learn proper selection of a detection dog.  
This class is designed to be a great resource for new trainers or any one working and training detection dogs. It can also be used as a fundamentals refresher course for K9 Program Supervisors as well.
 
As a trainer, you must thoroughly understand and apply principles of conditioning. During the four week course a trainer will be receiving classroom instruction using a variety of instruction materials that will assist you in reaching the objectives of the course.

This course will measure your attainment of specific course objective with one comprehensive written exam which you must score an 88% to pass.  Performance objectives will be measured using progress checks.  The majority of the course will be hands on and learning as you go.
Each trainer will be assigned 2 “green” dogs to train from green to our certification standards while maintaining accurate and proper training records.

Five-Week Patrol Trainer Course:

This course is designed to instruct K9 Trainers on the proper handler training methods in the usage of Police Patrol dogs.  (Training is in line with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) standards.)  Each K9 Trainer can expect to learn how to effectively guide and instruct patrol handlers on how to control their K9, search for suspects, set up training situations and set up a maintenance training schedule.

In order to attend this course, you should have a basic knowledge of how adults learn and how to apply that in a K9 setting. Registrants are required to have taken and passed the four week trainer’s course offered.

This course is designed to assist the student instructor on observing, guiding and effectively directing student handlers in proper K9 handling skills. During the four-week course a student instructor will receive classroom instruction by using a variety of materials to include training videos, slides and a study guide.

The course will provide guidance on how to properly put together a period of instruction by using visual aids and effectively engaging students in a classroom setting.  The Student Instructor will as well give student handlers proper hands-on instruction and individual assistance under the guidance of the training instructor.  This class is designed to be a great resource for new student instructors in assisting K9 handlers, inexperienced or experienced to develop their skill set effectively and with excellence.

  • off-site situations - warehouses and vehicles

The maximum class size is 8 students.

Equipment:

Students must provide a K9 and all K9 equipment required for the class.

Cost and Payment:

2 Week Courses: $1,200
4 Week Courses: $2,400
5 Week Course:  $3,000
6 Week Course:  $3,600
